Shaughnessy Seniors Community invites families, caregivers, and community members to join a meaningful afternoon on Tuesday, July 15th. From 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM, guests are welcome to attend a High Tea-themed Open House and an educational workshop led by the Alzheimer Society of B.C.

Located in downtown Port Coquitlam, Shaughnessy offers long-term care in a modest, home-like setting. Its smaller size allows for a personalized approach, where residents are supported by a dedicated team—many of whom have been part of the community for over a decade. Shaughnessy also provides short-term respite stays, offering flexible care options for families in transition or in need of extra support.

This special event is an opportunity to explore the community, meet the care team, and learn more about how to support individuals living with dementia. The workshop, presented by the Alzheimer Society of B.C., will share practical strategies for creating more inclusive, understanding spaces for people affected by memory loss.

Why dementia education matters
Dementia affects thousands of families across British Columbia, and its impact is felt well beyond those diagnosed. By understanding the condition and learning how to respond with empathy and awareness, families and communities can help reduce stigma, promote dignity, and improve quality of life. Whether you are a caregiver, friend, neighbour, or simply want to be more informed, this workshop offers insight that can help build a more compassionate and connected community.

Guests will also enjoy light refreshments in a cozy high tea-style setting, and have a chance to ask questions about care options, daily life at Shaughnessy, and the services available to support both residents and their families.
